The Human Nature of Teaching Part I: Ways of Teaching That We Share With Other Animals. What can we learn from animals by watching them teach?
Part I in a series by Peter Gray. He says his goal for the series is to examine teaching from the ground up. He starts here by defining teaching and presents evidence that teaching occurs in at least some non-human animals. An examination of teaching in other species may lead to insights that will be useful for understanding teaching in our species. #teaching #learning #DAP #play

Are Fairy Tales Still Useful to Children?
Couple things here - this is an old link and the form to fill out to access the interview is no longer secure - do what you will with that. Zipes' thoughts down towards the bottom of the page though are still very much worth the read. Then, if you are so inclined, search his name JACK ZIPES on YouTube... better carve out a couple days! It's a rabbit hole of amazingness that is worth falling into and you might just be a little sad when you decide to climb back out! #fairytales #stories #books #reading

No Dentist Left Behind
Here's the backstory: The author, John Taylor, is a retired superintendent of schools in Lancaster, S.C., he offered this history about the essay he wrote while leading that district:
The parody was originally titled "Absolutely the Best Dentists." It was written and sent to every newspaper and legislator in South Carolina a number of years ago in an attempt to point out the absurdities inherent in South Carolina's then new accountability act which was focused on absolute performance and threatened retention for every child who couldn't meet very challenging grade level standards. (Not to mention severe penalties for "poorly performing" schools, teachers and administrators.) Since then it has traveled widely to the point that I have not been able to keep up with the uses; but I know it has appeared in teacher association publications in at least three Canadian Provinces and in Australia, as well as dozens in the USA. The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) seems to have given the story a new life. Thus: No Dentist Left Behind.
