A state-funded pre-K program led to ‘significantly negative effects’ for kids in Tennessee
Here is another article that emerged in response to the final results of the #Vanderbilt study which came out in early 2022. From the article: "By 6th grade, children in the #Tennessee state funded Pre-K program did worse than their peers (who didn't attend) in measures of academic achievement and behavior. In some pre-K programs, something is not better than nothing." #play #DAP #teaching #learning #pushdown

Fairy Tales and Psychological Life Patterns
You'll note there is no date or author credit in the article you will access via this link, however, a little bit of digging leads me to believe that the article you'll access is either based on, or is a translation (from French) of, Fairy Tales and Psychological Life Plans by Agnès Le Guernic, 2004. #fairytales #stories
The role of doll play in language development
I happened upon this article while reading a newsletter that covers the happenings of the toy industry. The part that caught my eye was this: research found children talked more about others’ thoughts and emotions, a concept known as internal state language (ISL), when playing with dolls than while playing tablet games. I mean we know this, right?!? But I just love love love when someone does the math to prove it. Access the full study here. More fuel for our #play fire! #toys #learning #DAP #screens #technology

Sensory-Motor Reading Readiness for School
Dr. Johnson has seen children diagnosed with AD/HD or learning disabilities “miraculously” improve when they are taken out of “academic” kindergartens or given an extra year in a developmental kindergarten that emphasizes movement, play, and the integration of their sensory-motor systems. #DAP #play #teaching #learning #movement #reading #writing
