New Art Ideas!

While I was in Terre Haute this past week I found myself with some FREE TIME so I found a library and did some work on the new activity book (always a work in progress!) and I came across some activities that were too good to miss!

These just simply cannot wait to be captured in a new book or workshop - you gotta plan on doing these soon! I know both you & the children will have a blast!

Credit must go to the following sources:

RAINBOW LAYER VARIATION:

Check this out! Many of you do our "Rainbow Layer" experiment from my revised edition of the Fizzle Bubble Pop and WOW book - here are some new liquids you can try instead of or in addition to the ones we suggest: olive oil, rubbing alcohol, corn syrup, glycerine!

For those of you not familiar with the experiment we suggest blue dish soap, pink shampoo, colored water and cheap cooking oil. Slowly pour about an inch of each liquid into a clear plastic cup. No matter which liquid you pour in first - no matter what order you pour them in -they will always settle out in the same way.

Why? DENSITY! For more science ideas check out the shopping section of the website and get a copy of Fizzle Bubble today!

RECIPE for HOMEMADE FINGERPAINT:

1/2 cup cornstarch

3/4 cup cold water

2 c. hot water

1 TB glycerine

couple squirts of your favorite tempra paint

Don't Miss this one!

Fill a balloon with a mixture of water and tempra paint. Toss them off the top of the slide or your climbing structure onto a huge sheet of paper for a new exciting version of SPLATTER PAINTING!

LAWN ART

Use long roller brushes (like the ones you would use to paint a room) to paint the grass! Make prints of this interesting texture and designs it makes!

Variation: Use a piece of astro turf instead of your real lawn.

BUBBLE WRAP ART IDEA #177

Note: Try this one with a couple adult assistants first. Wrap yourself in bubble wrap. Allow the children to paint on you! Now drop down and roll around on a piece of big mural paper! After the children watch YOU they will want to do it themselves! Be prepared for great fun, lots of POP sounds and LOTS of willing rollers!!!

MOPS AND BROOMS

Paint a big mural with a mop and broom!

BALLOON 'BERGS

Make waterballoons.

Freeze them.

Put them in the water table to allow for explorations with small boats and other water play toys.

Variation: make colored-water waterballoons for contrast in your water tub OR color the water in the tub and NOT in the balloons!

That should assist you in kickin' off the year with a BANG!

Stay in touch and enjoy!

all my love
