Money is like manure.....
...it doesn't do any good unless it's being spread around helping young things grow.
-Dolly Levi
"Hello Dolly"
What else helps young things grow?
Time, Love, Respect, Good Environments, Mud, Sand, Water, Bubbles, Stories, Songs, Boundaries,Cookies and Milk, Field trips to meaningful places, Pets...
What helps YOU to keep gowing?
Time, Love, Respect, Good Environments...
hhhmmmmm..... a few similarities??!!
Children grow better when in places that support and encourage and so do WE! Are you being supported and enouraged while on your professional journey? It can often be difficult to pass along that which we ourselves are not receiving.
Make sure that you are FULL! It is very hard to GIVE when you are EMPTY!
What fills you up? What keeps you jazzed and passionate about your profession (your LIFE!) so that you can go into the classroom (your living room) each day and be the best that YOU can be for THEM?!!
Whatever that something is - go out and keep on doing it!!
Yesterday Tom and I went and saw the musical HELLO DOLLY with Tom's mom, Barbara, and set of the Kansas City cousins, Dominick and (also) Barbara. At intermission Tom's mom said to me - "This show makes want to go out and LIVE LIFE!" I told her that I thought that was the message of the show!! LIVE! And enjoy it!! You only come around once! Make it worth it! Are you making a life that matters for YOU? Your FAMILY? Your children?
Sometimes we miss the forest for the trees and spend all our energy worrying about the stuff that -in the long run- doesn't really matter. Do a self check the next time you find your stress steam rising, your head hurting and your panties getting in a bunch about WHATEVER.... pull back, take a breath and ask yourself in all honesty if IN SEVEN YEARS IT WILL REALLY MATTER.
This is a good thing to start practicing both at home and at school. Remember though to be patient and kind with yourself. Respect your location on the journey and DO NOT push yourself along until you are ready. It's one thing to need a push because you are being stubborn and resistant. It's another thing entirely to PUSH yourself because you think & tell yourself, "I SHOULD be further ahead."
Baby steps. Remember that I'm here for you!
all my best,
lisa
